Self Designed Experience - The Creation of a Scholarship Fund for Refugee Students
I have been a mentor and executive board member of Refuge UC for the past few years. As I approached the end of my time at UC, I knew I wanted to create something that could have a sustainable and long lasting impact on the students that we work with. Through working with my team, we were able to create a scholarship fundraiser for our mentees through Refuge UC as it became a nonprofit organization. This experience helped me learn how to fundraise effectively, how to lead and work closely with a team, the importance of organization, and the importance of initiative. We have been able to raise over $1,500 in scholarships for the mentees which will be awarded to them at our end of the year banquet. Shown below is the website we were able to create which showcases our organization, its mission, and allows people to donate towards the scholarship fund, along with a picture of me and my mentee!
